18 Signs a Female Coworker Likes You But is Hiding it

Sharing is caring!

If you’re picking up on some signs that a female coworker likes you, it can be both thrilling and nerve-wracking. Why?

On one hand, it’s exciting to think that someone you work with might be attracted to you. But on the other hand, you might be hesitant to act on your feelings, for fear of making things awkward or creating tension in the workplace.

This is why I’ve put together these signs for you. We all spend a lot of time at work, and it’s only normal for feelings to arise between people. But sometimes you can be unsure about the signs you’re getting. Here’s how to know if she’s really interested or not.

1. She hints about spending more time with you outside of work

When someone has a crush on you, they often want to spend more time with you, but might not be sure how to express it.

Since the workplace can be a bit of a minefield when it comes to romance, your coworker might be trying to find a way to test the waters and see if there’s potential for something more.

For instance, she may mention a new restaurant that she’s been wanting to try, and casually suggest that the two of you go there sometime. Or maybe subtly mention a hobby that you both share, and hints at doing it together outside of work.

All these are clear messages that she’ll like to spend time with you outside the work environment where there’s a restricted time you both can spend together. And it’s because she loves to spend time with you, and hopes that you’ll ask her out on a date.

By suggesting that you two do something outside of work, she’s creating an opportunity to get to know you better without it being too overly romantic.

2. She laughs at your jokes, even when they’re not that funny

We tend to laugh more easily around people we feel comfortable with and attracted to.

Also, humor is often used as a way to connect with others and create a sense of intimacy. When we laugh together, we’re sharing a moment of joy, and that can be a powerful bonding experience.

So, when your female coworker is laughing at your jokes, even when they’re not that funny, it could be a sign that she’s trying to build that connection with you.

She might be trying to show you that she shares your sense of humor, or that she enjoys being around you. It could also be a way for her to signal that she’s open to conversation and interested in getting to know you better.

3. She initiates conversations with you and seems interested in what you have to say

When you’re at work, it’s normal to have conversations with your coworkers throughout the day. After all, you’re all there to do a job, and communication is key to getting things done.

But if you’ve noticed that a particular female coworker seems to go out of her way to initiate conversations with you, it could be a sign that she’s interested in you.

Now, you might be thinking, “Well, maybe she’s just being friendly.” And that’s a fair point. After all, you’re all colleagues, and it’s natural to have conversations with people you work with.

But if she wants to talk to you more than anyone else, it could be a sign that she’s interested in you.

Think about it – if someone likes you, they’ll naturally want to spend more time around you and get to know you better. And if she’s hiding her feelings, initiating conversations could be a way to keep the connection going without being too obvious about her intentions.

4. She makes an effort to look her best when she knows You’ll be around

When you’re at work, you’re likely to see the same people day in and day out, including your female coworker.

If you’ve started to notice that she’s putting in more effort to look good around you, it could be a sign that she’s attracted to you. This might mean that she’s wearing nicer clothes, putting on makeup, or doing her hair in a way that’s different from her usual style.

People generally dress up when they want to make a good impression or feel more confident. Your coworker might be doing the same thing because she wants to catch your eye and make you see her as attractive.

This could be her way of sending you a subtle signal that she’s interested in you, without actually coming out and saying it.

5. She tries to make you laugh

Humor is a great way to break the ice and establish a connection with someone. When you’re laughing together, it can create a sense of intimacy and closeness that might not be there otherwise.

Now, she may not have it all planned out that she’s going to make you laugh so that you can fall in love with her. It may all just be impulsive, most likely out of the need to impress you.

From a guy’s perspective, I can also attest to the fact that it feels great when you’re able to make a woman you like laugh. And we all know how girls love guys that can make them laugh.

But it’s not just girls this works on. Guys also love a girl with a good sense of humor. This is why a girl might attempt to make you laugh if she likes you.

6. She compliments you on your work or your appearance

When someone likes you, they often try to find ways to show their interest in you without being too direct.

One way they might do this is by giving you compliments. This could compliment on your work or appearance, or anything else that they find impressive or attractive about you.

And you can tell that her compliments are not just ordinary by how she says it. First, she’ll be consistent and attentive to detail. You’ll see how she says it with admiration in her eyes.

7. She finds excuses to touch you

Have you noticed that when you’re interested in someone, you tend to find reasons to be physically close to them?

It’s almost like your body is trying to send a signal that you want to be closer. Well, your female coworker might be doing the same thing.

Finding excuses to touch you, like a light tap on the shoulder or a quick brush of the arm, can be a subtle way to create a connection and show interest.

A touch is a powerful form of communication that can trigger all sorts of emotional responses. It can release feel-good chemicals in our brains, like oxytocin, which can create a sense of closeness and intimacy.

So if your female coworker is seeking out those moments of physical contact, it could be a sign that she’s trying to build a deeper connection with you.

8. She asks personal questions about your life

When someone starts asking personal questions, it’s usually a sign that they want to get to know you better on a more intimate level.

This is especially true in a workplace setting, where conversations tend to be more focused on work-related topics.

If your female coworker is asking you about your personal life, such as your hobbies, family, or interests, it could be a sign that she’s interested in you as a person and wants to build a deeper connection.

The reason personal questions can be a sign of romantic interest is that they demonstrate a desire to build a connection beyond the superficial.

9. She seems nervous or shy around you

Being around someone you’re interested in can be nerve-wracking, and especially in a professional setting, it can be tough to know how to express those feelings without risking your working relationship.

She might worry about saying the wrong thing or coming off as awkward, so she’ll clam up or avoid interaction altogether.

She might also be worried about coming on too strong, or about the potential awkwardness if you don’t feel the same way. So instead of saying outright that she likes you, she might show her feelings in more subtle ways, like blushing or avoiding eye contact.

It can sometimes be hard to interpret these signals, but if you pay attention to her body language and tone of voice, you might be able to pick up on her true feelings.

10. She goes out of her way to do things for you

If you’ve noticed your female coworker suddenly being extra helpful and attentive toward you, it could be a sign that she’s trying to show you how much she cares.

By bringing you coffee or snacks, or lending a hand with your work, she might be trying to demonstrate her thoughtfulness and consideration.

When we like someone, we want to impress them, right? Maybe she’s hoping that by doing these little things for you, you’ll see how thoughtful and caring she can be.

Or she could just be looking for excuses to spend a little more time with you. Either way, if you’re noticing an increase in how often she’s bringing you things or offering to help out, it’s something to keep an eye on.

11. She remembers small details about you

If your female coworker remembers details about your hobbies, interests, or personal life, it could be a sign that she’s trying to get to know you better and potentially even likes you.

While it might seem like a small thing, remembering personal details about someone is a pretty significant sign of interest. It shows that they’re paying attention to you, and that they care about what you have to say.

In some cases, it could even indicate that they’re trying to impress you by showing that they remember the things that you’re passionate about.

12. She maintains eye contact with you for longer than usual

When we like someone – or something – we just love to look at it. This is why your eyes get fixated when you see a piece of shoe or shirt that you think will look good on you. It’s impulsive.

Hence, if you always notice that a girl loves to make eye contact with you when you’re interacting, it might be a sign that she likes what she sees.

Furthermore, and more importantly, people tend to bond through eye contact. Studies show that our brain releases oxytocin that makes us feel good when we look at someone we find attractive.

You’ll notice this by how much she enjoys making eye contact with you. It will almost be like she’s flirting with you with her subtle smiles and her playful demeanor, subtly trying to get close to you and make physical contact.

13. She blushes or looks away when you catch her staring at you

This is a strong sign that she’s crushing hard on you.

It’s a common experience we’ve all had at some point in our lives, and it’s no different in the workplace.

When you catch your female coworker staring at you, only for her to quickly turn away and pretend to be busy, it could be a sign that she’s into you.

Blushing is a physical reaction that we can’t control, and it’s often an indication that we’re feeling embarrassed, flustered, or even aroused.

By quickly turning away, your coworker might be trying to play it cool and not give away her feelings. After all, it can be awkward to admit that you have a crush on someone, especially if you work with them.

She’s hoping that you won’t pick up on the fact that she’s been staring at you, and that she might be interested in more than just a professional relationship.

14. She seems to be jealous when you show interest in them in other women

This one can sometimes be easy to notice.

You’re talking to your female coworker about your weekend plans and mentioned that you were going out with a girl, and noticed her demeanor change a bit.

She suddenly seems a little quieter, or her smile doesn’t seem as genuine as before. While it’s easy to assume that she’s just not interested in hearing about your social life, it could also be a sign that she’s a bit jealous.

When someone has a crush on you, it’s not uncommon for them to feel a little possessive or territorial. Instinctively, they want to have you for themselves. And the thought that you may already have feelings for someone else may be unsettling for them.

Even if they’re trying to keep their feelings hidden, they might get a little flustered or uncomfortable when you talk about other women, especially if they perceive them as a threat.

15. She always tries to find opportunities to be near you

She’s popping up in the break room when you go to get coffee, or lingering near your desk when she doesn’t have any work to do there. This could be a sign that she’s interested in you, but trying to keep it under wraps.

You know how it is – when you like someone, you want to be near them as much as possible. And when you’re at work, you might not have a lot of opportunities to spend time together outside of the usual meetings and projects.

So your coworker might be trying to make the most of the time you do have by positioning herself close to you whenever she can.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that she’s following you around like a lovesick puppy – that would be a bit much.

But if you’re starting to notice that she’s always finding reasons to be in the same area as you, it could be a sign that she’s hoping to get a chance to talk to you or just be in your company.

And who knows – maybe she’s hoping that the more time you spend together, the more you’ll start to see her in a romantic light.

16. She asks for your help or advice on personal matters

You might be surprised to know that seeking your advice on personal matters can be a sign that your female coworker has a bit of a crush on you. But if you’ve been there, you’ll understand.

Now, it’s not always the case, of course. Sometimes people just value your opinion and insight, especially if you’re known to be a good listener or have a certain area of expertise.

But when it comes to personal issues like relationships, family matters, or career decisions, it can be a different story.

Think about it: if someone didn’t feel a certain level of trust or admiration for you, would they confide in you about something important to them? Probably not.

17. She takes risks for you

When we like someone, we instinctively want to care for them. If they’re been mistreated or bullied, for instance, we feel bad, as if that thing was happening to us as well.

So if you often find out that your coworker stands up for you, or supports you in arguments, it could be a sign that she likes you. If your workload is too much on you, for instance, she might voluntarily offer to assist.

If someone above you treats you badly and she’s in the capacity to challenge that person, she might step up for you. These are obvious signs that she’s also troubled whenever you’re troubled. And it’s especially true if she’s usually not this type of person.

18. She may try to gauge your interest in her

Now she may do this in different ways and most times this could be a subconscious attempt. She might decide to start conversations that go beyond work-related topics like your hobbies, weekend plans, or family, to see if there’s any common ground between you two.

If you seem engaged in the conversation and willing to share details about your personal life, it could be a sign to her that you’re interested too.

Another way she may go about this is by trying to find out if you’re single. She can ask about your relationship status, or try to casually drop in questions about whether you’re seeing anyone.

It’s also possible that she simply enjoys your company and wants to get to know you better, even if she’s not necessarily looking for a romantic relationship.

In this case, she might not even realize that she’s trying to gauge your interest in her – she may just be trying to build a friendship.

But if she follows up this sign with other signs listed, then she’s got feelings for you.

Final worlds

All the signs I’ve mentioned in this article don’t really mean anything if they just happen one time.

There are nice people out there who will just do nice things for you or behave in a certain way without necessarily having a romantic interest in you. The signs only mean something if you see a cluster of them consistently
